World class scientists underpin HortResearch’s capability in the field of disease epidemiology. We have many years of practical experience working with industry to put in place initiatives that emphasise environmentally sustainable production with justifiable fungicide use. 

We develop best practices so industry can adapt quickly to ever changing market demands.

Therefore our group’s goals are:

• Comprehensive knowledge of the biology and ecology of target pathogens, and their microbial competitors.
• Novel disease control technologies for target pathogens as alternatives to conventional fungicides.
• Computer-based models of disease to predict risk periods for target pathogens and for use as decision support tools for growers.
