Product formulation

There is overwhelming evidence that fruit and vegetables contain compounds (phytochemicals) that reduce risk of various diseases including CVD, diabetes, cancer, arthritis and cataracts.

These natural compounds can also reduce the effects of ageing and alleviate the negative impacts on the human body of environmental stresses such as pollution, radiation, anxiety and oxidative stress.

HortResearch is developing, with its partners, novel functional ingredients which can be added to foods to improve functionality, bioavailability and consumer appeal.

We are able to provide advice on how to enhance the functionality of existing food products, how to optimise bioavailability of bioactive compounds and how to achieve synergistic effects from combining compounds.

For example, we are working with the dairy industry to develop novel products, based on fruit and dairy, which have proven health benefits.

We can assist in the formulation of novel products to maximise health benefits and meet target consumer needs.
