Margaret Hogg-Stec Memorial Scholarship
Background
The aim of the Margaret Hogg-Stec Memorial Scholarship is to further the career of women employees of HortResearch for the general benefit of HortResearch.
All enquiries in regard to this scholarship should be directed to: The Selection Committee, The Margaret Hogg-Stec Memorial Scholarship, C/O Human Resources Administrator, HortResearch, Mt Albert.
- The Margaret Hogg-Stec Memorial Scholarship has a value of $10,000 and will be awarded annually.
- The scholarship is open to all women who are permanent employees of HortResearch. This includes those in Finance/Administration, Marketing and all Science divisions.
- The scholarship may be used to fund travel or conferences and/or assist the pursuit of a course of study, these activities being for the specific benefit of the individual's career. The extension of the undertaking, to benefit HortResearch by developing new business or building client relationships, would be seen as an advantage.
- The Margaret Hogg-Stec Memorial Scholarship will be awarded by the Chief Executive Officer of HortResearch, upon recommendation by a selection committee which will comprise two women from HortWomen and one representative from Human Resources.
- In making recommendations for the award of the scholarship, the selection committee will consider the applicant's merit, the value and benefit to HortResearch, together with the development and enhancement to the applicant's career. Preference will normally be given to candidates who have worked for at least one year for HortResearch, immediately prior to application. Should there be no suitable candidates in this category this condition may be waived.
- The scholarship shall be held only once by each recipient, although in exceptional circumstances this may be waived. The scholarship may also be divided among a maximum of three applicants in any one year.
- No scholarship shall be awarded upon any occasion if the selection committee is of the opinion that there is no candidate of sufficient merit. In this case the scholarship may be carried over to the following year.
- Any employee accepting this scholarship will need to accept that any intellectual property arising out of this work will belong to HortResearch.
- The recipient will be required to provide feedback to the selection committee within two months of completion of travel or, one calendar year from the receipt of the scholarship, depending upon whichever is the shortest period of time.
- Applications close on 31 March in the financial year prior to when the study or conference will fall within.
