Kiwifruit
In 2004, the 100th year since kiwifruit was first brought to New Zealand, ZESPRI, the world's largest kiwifruit marketer with sales of close to a billion dollars, and HortResearch reached agreement that the intellectual property ownership of ZESPRI™ GOLD (‘Hort16A’) and all new cultivars developed in future by HortResearch will pass to ZESPRI.
HortResearch is ZESPRI's principal provider of research services and has extensive resources involved in breeding of new kiwifruit varieties.
